Builders in Gdańsk, Poland, made a surprising discovery while working in an old ice cream shop. Under the floor, they found a stone tomb from the 1200s or 1300s. Inside was a skeleton and a large stone with a sword and cross carved into it. Experts believe the person was likely a knight or someone important.
The tomb was in good condition. It had not been damaged or stolen from, which is rare. There were no weapons or objects buried with the body, but the carvings on the stone suggest the person had a special role in society. In the past, symbols were often used in burials instead of real items.
The area may have once been a cemetery near an old church. Archaeologists hope to learn more about the knight by studying the bones. They want to find out how old he was, what kind of life he lived, and what his story can tell us about the city’s past.
